Since the 1970s, the Pontifical Biblical Institute has had a joint programme with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI), and has also offered the possibility of studying at the École Biblique et Archéologique Française (EBAF) since 1986.
Since the academic year 2023-2024, our institute has widened its study programme in Jerusalem, offering students greater flexibility in choosing courses, offered by the Institute and our partner institutions. The requirements remain those of the Licentiate program in Rome, with a maximum of 30 ECTS credits per semester, and a maximum of 30 ECTS credits at external institutions.

So, for example:
- Students in first-year of the Licence (after complete the introductory Greek and Hebrew in Rome), normally take language courses (Greek A, Hebrew A & B) and the archaeology course at the PBI, a joint course between PBI and HUJI, and two other elective courses at HUJI
- Students who are further along in their licentiate program or who have already completed language courses A & B can choose from other elective courses.
- Students who prefer to study at EBAF, can combine PIB courses with those at EBAF.
Students also have the option of arriving in Jerusalem in July, and dedicate the summer months to the study of Modern Hebrew as a background for Biblical Hebrew.
More detailed information about enrolling and participating in these study options in Jerusalem will be provided during the academic year.
